CPHQ Certification Program

The Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification program is a voluntary certification program for healthcare quality professionals.  The objectives of this program are to

  1. Promote professional standards and improve practice of quality.
  2. Give special recognition to those professionals who demonstrate an acquired body of knowledge and expertise in the field through successful completion of the examination process.
  3. Identify for employers, the public and members of allied professions individuals with acceptable knowledge of the principals and practice of healthcare quality.
  4. Foster continuing competence and maintain the professional standard in healthcare quality through the recertification program.

To become certified, applicants must pass the CPHQ certification examination.  This exam measures a quality professional’s knowledge, skills and abilities.  It is an objective, multi-choice exam consisting of recall questions that test the candidate’s knowledge of specific facts and concepts, application questions that require the applicant to interpret or apply information to a situation, and analysis questions that test the candidate’s ability to evaluate, problem solve, or integrate a variety of information and/or judgment into a meaningful whole.  Candidates who successfully complete the certification examination are entitled to use the designation “CPHQ” after their names.  Certification is maintained by fulfilling continuing education (CE) requirements over the two-year recertification cycle and payment of a recertification fee.

The CPHQ certification program is fully accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence in Washington, DC.  Additional information on the CPHQ certification program can be found on the National Association of Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) website.

MAHQ supports CPHQ certification by conducting Exam Prep Study Courses and providing approved continuing education credits for all our educational programs.

The Healthcare Quality Certification Board (HQCB) has launched on-line recertification. You can also use the site to track your continuing education credits prior to submission.
